Management assessment using i-Pulse

i-Pulse is designed to provide a simple framework to self assess and report management performance. A self assessment file, based on your template will hold up to 25 self assessments. It would normally be appropriate to record a self assessment every 3 months with an update of improvement points.

For the first self-assessment open your managment indicators template file and click File, the Save as Working with an appropriate file name to establish your working file.

You can score your progress in achieving you management indicator targets by clicking Current Position and selecting the appropriate 'traffic light' criteria. If you have carrried out previous assessments your self assessment score will show under history.

You may need to refer to your management information system and i-Pulse can be linked to your management information computer files by clicking Options on the menu bar, then Default location settings and setting the location for the M.I.S. button located at the bottom right corner of the main screen.

As you are considering the position for the management indicator, you can make notes on the improvement position by clicking the Notes to Improve button.

When you have scored all your management indicators you can view the overall position by clicking the Summary button at the bottom of the main screen. You will then see your score for all the management indicators for the last 5 self assessments.

Notes for improvement on the most recent self assessment are indicated together with the number of improvement action points.

If you click the % Score button at the bottom of the screen you will access the % score for each perspective and overall over the last 5 srlf assessments.

You may wish to have a print copy of either, or both, of these screens. i-Pulse has a feature to enable you to print or save an image of any screen, or part of a screen.

To access this feature click the camera icon in the bottom right hand corner of most screens. This will access a menu which enables you to print the screen, save the screen as an image of your choice or open the cropping tool.

The cropping tool has a chequered corner which should be dragged to the top left corner of the image required. Then right to fix and show the chequered corner for the bottom right hand corner. Use the menu at the top of the tool to choose the destination of the image selected.

There may be a requirement to manipulate present and past assessments, e.g. there may be a need to re-score previous self-assessments. i-Pulse has a feature to manipulate assessments.

Ro access this feature click Options on the menu bar and then Delete, or swop order of assessments. This will access a screen which enables you to select the periods to Swop or to Delete a period of periods.

When you have completed a large number of assessments over a period and need to start a new file the best option is to save the established file as a new working file and then delete the majority of the assessments in this new file. It may be appropriate to retain the last 5 assessments.

There is a feature to automatically re-sort manipulated assessments into date order.

To start a new assessment click the Start new Position Assessment button at the top of the main screen.

You will then be asked if you want to bring forward to the new assessment all the improvement notes and/ or all the action points from the last assessment.

In prastice it is easier, and more practical, to update, and add to, your previous improvement points and action points than start from scratch.

The results of self assessment can be compiled into a management assessment report which can be printed out.

To compile a management assessment report go to Print on the menu bar and select Management Assessment Report. You can select the date of any performance report and you can choose between having the indicators printed out in their listed order, or in order of performance. Having made the delection you require click Compile.

You will be asked to save the report in the Report Documents folder under an appropriate file name in .htm format. Enter the file name and click Save. After compilation the report will automatically open, as a .htm document, in MS Word. Go to File and Print to print out in the normal way
