Your i-Pulse template

i-Pulse includes a number of templates which are typical for small organisations in different sectors. There are templates for small businesses, not for profit organisations, franchisees and business units in large organisations.

The management framework in each template is based on a maximum of twelve management indicators in four perspectives. These default perspectives are customers, business management, operations management and employees.

An appropriate start to establishing your i-Pulse template is view the typical templates and decide which one is closest to the management of your organisation. You can then customise to establish your i-Pulse template.

To view the templates open the i-Pulse program, click Skip at the initial splash screen, then Next at the Quick Tutorials screen. At the QuickStart screen click the Template button, or go to the file menu on the menu bar and click Open Templates

Highlight the template file that you wish to study and click Open. The template will open at the Management Indicators screen.

The management indicator screen is the main working screen in the i-Pulse program.

It lists the management indicators for whichever of the four perspectives is selected together with the target for each management indicator.

For each management indicator you can make notes regarding improvement activity, record improvement action points and score the current level of progress against the stated target.

Study the available i-Pulse templates and decide which is appropriate for your organisation.

Initially, it is recommended that you save your propective template prior to customisation.

To do this click File on the menu bar and then Save as Template. Enter an approriate name for your template and click Save.

Your main working file will be based on your template and over time reports will be produced which may go to third parties. These reports will need to be identified and there is a feature to record your organisation and contact details in the template file.

To enter these details click the Details button at the top of the management indicators screen or click file on the menu bar and then Organisation Information. Enter the information requested and click OK

With your management team study the management indicators for the template you have selected. You can delete a management indicator, or move its position, by clicking the Move button. You can also edit the text as appropriate or you can add new management indicators,

It is also possible that you might wish to alter the wording of the four perspectives. You can do this by clicking Options on the menu bar and then modifying the text in the Perpectives area.

In the templates the targets for the management indicators are made as quantitative as possible without being too detailed. Each statement is such as to enable a judgement to be made as to whether the management indicator is being met, nearly met or not met. You should customise modified management indicator targets for your i-Pulse template using these principles.

You will score your progress in achieving your targets. The scoring scale is accessed by clicking Current Position. The scale differs dependent on the template selected. You can modify the text of the scale by clicking Options on the menu bar and modifying the text in the scoring scale criteria area.

It may be helpful either in reviewing the management indicators for the templates or after establishing your template to compile and print out a hard copy report of the indicators.

With the template open for the management indicators under consideration go to Print on the menu bar and select Management Indicators and Targets, then click Compile.

You will be asked to save the report in the Report Documents folder under an appropriate file name in .htm format. Enter the file name and click Save. After compilation the report will automatically open, as a .htm document, in MS Word. Go to File and Print to print out in the normal way
